“In recent months, the disposable vape trend has grown exponentially, which has created a lot of single-use plastic and battery waste. To combat the issue, we’ve introduced a ground-breaking battery and vape recycling system in each of our 888 Vapour retail stores. We were the first high-street vape store to implement such a measure, and we’re working closely with Biffa to ensure that as much vape waste as possible gets recycled and disposed of safely,” said TCF Group chairman Liam Chapman.
The organisation has embraced green business practices that includes the use of recyclable device and juice packaging wherever possible. Plastics, pallets, paper and all other consumables are also sourced with a view to the environmental impact.
More than aiming to achieve carbon neutrality, the entire organisation has worked to become carbon positive. Through its partnership with Ecologi, the environmental approach h reaches out from the workplace to include every member of the team’s home emissions, personal travel, business travel, holidays, food, and anything else with an impact.
To date, Ecologi has planted 3,321 trees in TCF’s own forests in Mozambique and Madagascar, contributing to 200 tonnes of CO² offset which also includes onshore wind energy schemes in Taiwan and the preservation of over 27,000 hectares of the Amazon Rainforest.
TCF is encouraging consumers to get in on the act to. In addition to providing recycling facilities in-store, they are encouraging vapers to switch from disposables to rechargeable products. The aim is to use the partnership with Biffa to reduce the volume of single-use plastics and li-ion batteries entering landfill.
“We only use recyclable e-liquid bottles and encourage our customers to correctly dispose of them once empty,” Chapman added.
Along with Riot Labs’ new carbon negative QBAR disposable, British companies are setting the standard for other manufacturers to follow. Despite requests, market leader Geek Bar is still to announce its recycling plans and environmental policy.
