Carmine Canino, President of ANPVU, told Planet of the Vapes: “The Board of Directors of the Association ANPVU (the only Italian Association of Consumers of e-cigs), at its last meeting, has unanimously decided to confer the appointment of Honorary Member of the ANPVU to Professor Konstantinos Farsalinos in recognition of his constant, assiduous commitment, and daily support in relation to research on the reduction of harm from tobacco smoke through the use of personal vaporisers (e-cigs).”
Dr Konstantinos Farsalinos commented on the award by saying: “The highest honour for a scientist is to be recognised for his efforts by people who have been influenced through his research and have improved their lives by making informed decisions. In this regard, I want to express my gratitude to the Italian ANPVU Association for their decision to award me Honorary Membership status.
“Vapers are a characteristic example of people who have followed science and the concept of harm reduction in their daily lives. They are also the driving force that can inform smokers who are unable or unwilling to quit about the concept of tobacco harm reduction.
“The ANPVU has an important role to play in communicating their undisputed expertise to policy makers in Italy and Europe, and in defending their right to access harm reduction products that literally save lives.
“I thank the ANPVU for this honour, which is further motivation to extend my research activities to provide reliable scientific evidence to help smokers make informed decisions about their health.”
The World Vapers’ Alliance turned the spotlight on Carmine Canino towards the end of last year as the ANPVU announced it would join it as a Partner.
Canino told them: “ANPVU is the only Italian association representing e-cigarette consumers. We defend all Italian vapers’ interests and fight for them. We inform and guide them on the science behind vaping and highlight vaping as the most efficient way to quit smoking. We also provide support to those wishing to quit smoking.
“Vaping is an incredibly efficient method to quit smoking and reduce tobacco harm. Part of our mission is to tell that to the Italian public and make the case for vaping as a solution. It is important for us to develop constructive dialogue with institutions, administrations and authorities that work on regulating the products our members consume.”
