Could CBD Fight COVID-19? Researchers Say Yes It Can!

08/07/2020

With science suggesting nicotine may help tackle the cornavirus, researchers are now asking could CBD fight COVID-19.

Scientists at the University of Lethbridge in Southern Alberta Canada, believe data collected over the past 4 years points to medical cannabis extracts not only tackling the virus but also preventing it!

When they say ‘cannibis extracts’ they’re of course talking about CBD – Cannabidiol – the ‘extract’ that’s left when the THC is removed.

THC stands for Tetrahydrocannabinol and simply put, is the active ingredient that gives cannabis users the ‘high’.

Researchers Olga and Igor Kovalchuk have been studying the possible medical effects of both cannabis and CBD for the last 5 years.

When the COVID-19 pandemic broke, they decided to look back at their data to see if CBD could hold the key to fighting the virus.

The couple say they were “totally stunned” by what they found:

There’s a lot of documented information about cannabis in cancer, cannabis in inflammation, anxiety, obesity and what not.

When COVID-19 started, Olga had the idea to revisit our data, and see if we can utilize it for COVID.

It was like a joker card, you know, coronavirus.

It just mixes up everybody’s plans.

As to the results they found?

The couple are extremely upbeat saying:

We were totally stunned at first, and then we were really happy.

The couple has now submitted a research paper and are awaiting the results and hoping for clinical trials to begin very soon.

It appears in the way French scientists say nicotine is producing more receptors in the body – replacing those killed off by the virus – CBD is doing something similar.

In simple terms Igor explained:

Imagine a cell being a large building.

Cannabinoids decrease the number of doors in the building by, say, 70 per cent, so it means the level of entry will be restricted.

So, therefore, you have more chance to fight it.

The couple are now waiting for clinical trials to begin to test the validity of their research and say:

Given the current dire and rapidly developing epidemiological situation, every possible therapeutic opportunity and avenue needs to be considered.

We need to bring it to the people.

We need to fight the beast.

Indeed we do.

Great to hear that not only nicotine, but CBD could fight COVID-19.

We shall of course keep you updated on any developments.
