All hospitals in Lincolnshire have banned
smoking within the grounds but vaping is allowed.
The ban will come into force in January
next year and patients that smoke will be offered patches and inhalers to help
them quit.
United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust
spokesman Stephen Kelly said it was part of the Trust’s duty of care to staff,
patients and visitors adding:
Many of the people who use our services are particularly
vulnerable to the harmful effects of second-hand smoke.
We recognize that smoking is a personal choice and we do not
discriminate against those who choose to do so, however, we are a
health-promoting organisation.
We are committed to protecting and improving the health and well
being of all employees, patients, and visitors.
Being completely smokefree reflects our commitment and responsibility for improving health and wellbeing.
